London, UK - April 2010
BNC founding Director, Professor Michael Horton has sadly died from cancer, aged 61. Prof. Horton was a world-leading clinical expert in bone research and a pioneer in the emerging field of Nanomedicine. His long and distinguished clinical and scientific research career provided a fundamental understanding of disease on cellular and molecular length scales, and has led to new diagnostics and treatments for osteoporosis. Prof. Horton was pivotal in developing the London Centre for Nanotechnology, a major interdisciplinary joint effort between University College London and Imperial College London, which he co-founded and successfully led as the first Director for Life Sciences over the last years of his career.
Dr David Sarphie, CEO of BNC, commented ‘Mike’s enthusiasm, sharp intellect and entrepreneurial spirit shaped BNC into the company it is today. He helped forge the scientific discipline of nanomedicine and made a significant contribution to healthcare research. We will miss his extensive knowledge, leadership and most of all his friendship’.
